Workshops & the National Curriculum for Music

At Clever Clogs we believe that to truly engage a child's interest musically you have to work with music that doesn't patronise. We do this by creating music that is extremely contemporary but also sonically and lyrically creates a place where childhood is respected and celebrated.

Our music comes from a deeply urban perspective which of course means that a wide diaspora of 'world' influences can be integrated at any time, filtered through the Clever Clogs lens.

An important aspect of our work is to make our music as accessible as possible - not only for the children but also for those teachers with no musical skills or training who want to work with material like ours.

We do this by creating songs that can grow with the relative level of talent in the class (including the teacher)

Our songs can be customised - used as backing tracks for new creativity. We purposefully leave gaps sometimes for the children to add their own parts.

As much as possible we aim to create music packages whose educational functions are so simple as to be universal. However, where necessary, our work is designed to be tailored to the National Curriculum and be integrated into a teaching plan.

Through our extensive experience of working with children making music we aim to provide a much needed modernising boost to the material available in music education.
